boden.kleid: bodenkleid: craftsmanship combining tradition and modernity
High above Algund, at the end of the road in Vellau, lies the Hoferhof at around 1,000 metres above sea level – with a stunning view of the mountains surrounding Meran. Amidst fields of organic vegetables, alpine meadows and grazing Tyrolean mountain sheep, Johanna Aichner devotes herself here to her labour of love – boden.kleid – with great patience, creative passion and genuine craftsmanship.
Most of boden.kleid’s products are made from wool from the sheep at the Hoferhof.
Johanna AichnerSheep and Handicrafts at a Mountain Farm
Johanna runs the Hoferhof farm above Algund together with her husband Armin: On the farm, which lies on the hiking trail to the Leiter Alm, she creates unique home accessories and other beautiful items, all of which feature the characteristic round tag bearing the inscription ‘boden.kleid’.
Johanna uses only South Tyrolean sheep’s wool – much of it comes from the farm’s own sheep. After shearing, the wool is washed and dried on site and then processed into yarn at the Spinnradl wool mill in St. Leonhard in Passeier. Johanna uses her crochet hook to transform the wool yarns into rugs, cushions, blankets and more.

Johanna AichnerFrom a hobby to a labour of love
Johanna has been crocheting since she was a child. She learnt it from her mother. Later on, Johanna wanted to do more than just use her creativity and craftsmanship as a hobby; she wanted to turn it into something more. With an extra dose of passion and dedication, she developed her own style and, five years ago, laid the foundations for boden.kleid with hand-crocheted rugs featuring a distinctive 3D bobble pattern.
She has since expanded her range, but all products can still be custom-made to the desired size and colour from the available colour palette. A great deal of time and handcrafting goes into every piece: rather than fleeting trends, the focus is on durable materials and high-quality workmanship.

Johanna AichnerFarm shop instead of a chicken coop
A real highlight for lovers of fine craftsmanship is the little shop that Johanna has set up in the former chicken coop at the Hoferhof. There you’ll find beautifully displayed products and unique handmade items: please do let her know in advance if you’re planning to visit the farm shop, so that this mother of two and farmer can make sure she has time for you.
The boden.kleid range includes, amongst other things:
- Rugs (floor coverings)
- Seat cushions and cushion covers
- Blankets
- Wall decorations (wall hangings)
- Headbands

Johanna AichnerCrafts with character
The products from boden.kleid combine traditional South Tyrolean craftsmanship with modern interior design: they appear both rustic and timelessly modern – inspired by the nature of South Tyrol and the colours of the Alpine mountain landscape.
The boden.kleid project tells a story of strong family ties and rural daily life, of soothing tranquillity and a focus on the essentials. Alongside regionality and sustainability, creativity and attention to detail are also key to the manufacturing process: only in this way can distinctive, one-of-a-kind pieces and special favourites be created.
