Holiday region Tauferer Ahrntal

The magic formula in the side valley of the Pustertal is: pleasures, familiar ambience and activities. Here, older and smaller adventures by land and by sea are waiting for you, as well as countless walking and hiking tours through a unique mountain world.

All year round, the sunny south side of the Zillertal Alps presents itself with a lot of magic, diversity and an incomparable atmosphere, thanks to the 84 3,000 m high peaks surrounding the Tauferer Ahrntal with an impressive rampant.

The inhabitants of the Taufers valley are particularly friendly and kind-hearted. Their rhythm of life mainly follows the course of the seasons, as nature determines everyday life in this valley.

Green holiday paradise

The Tauferer Ahrntal is a particularly green valley with a nearly unspoilt natural landscape. The 31,500 m2 large Nature Park Rieserferner-Ahrn embraces two countries and surprises with wonderful pastures, a breath-taking diversity of flora and fauna, impressive glaciers and magnificent peaks. In the inviting alpine huts, you are pampered with typical specialities. Moreover, mountain bikers and cyclists benefit from a well-established network of routes.

Culture lovers should absolutely visit the ancient Prettau mine, various museums and the Taufers Castle. In the disused mine, you also find a climatic gallery, where persons with a lung disease may enjoy therapies.

Rafting tours on Ahr river or paragliding are ideal for adventure-seeking vacationers. The natural swimming pond in Sand in Taufers offers a magnificent refreshment after long hiking and biking tours.

Traditional autumn

When it is time for the shepherds to bring the cattle back to the villages, autumn is not far away in the Tauferer Ahrntal. The traditional transhumances are still an important event in many localities, celebrated with traditional feasts. The beautifully decorated cattle and their attendants are joyfully welcomed in the valley. Afterwards, a typical popular feast with traditional specialities and music attracts many visitors.

Magical winter

The cold months begin early in Italy’s northernmost valley. Already at the end of September, the first snow covers the mountain peaks. This time is ideal for all hikers, who love to enjoy the quiet in the dense woods and to discover the unspoilt natural landscapes. The meadows and larches get coloured in a warm golden colour shade, whereas the crystal-clear alpine lakes get a silky shine.

In winter, the Tauferer Ahrntal transforms itself into a paradise for lovers of winter sports. Two skiing family-friendly skiing areas – Klausberg and Speikboden – guarantee perfectly prepared slopes and modern ski lifts. Cross-country skiers are offered beautiful runs in Rein in Taufers and St. Johann. The sledge runs in the surrounding area assure funny sleigh rides for the entire family.

Snowshoeing and ski tours are the best activities to enjoy the magical beauty of the winter landscape. Romantic horse sleigh rides are unforgettable in the same way and ideal to relax.

Wellness lovers should absolutely plan a visit of the swimming pool Cascade in Sand in Taufers. Besides various pools, it offers a large sauna landscape.

In the pre-Christmas period, you may enjoy the magical atmosphere of the Christmas fair in Taufers. Moreover, the small but particularly beautiful Christmas market in Sand in Taufers offers a lovingly elaborated supporting programme.
