The adventure is about to begin, we head for the igloo.
Internet ConsultingThe location: we are in Speikboden,in the Ahrntal valley, at an altitude of 2,000 metres. We set off in the afternoon and took the cable car (tickets are to be bought separately) up to the mountain station where, after a short walk, we were greeted by a total of 9 igloos.
Technical information: The igloos were built recently, in the second half of December. From New Year's Eve and for the following two weeks, it was possible to stay overnight in the igloos every night. Now it is only possible on weekends until around mid-April. Many of you may be wondering how these igloos are built. Well, the technique is really ingenious! Huge balloons are inflated and then covered with artificial snow. Once the snow is compacted, the balloon is deflated and the interior is smoothed and decorated with an ice cutter. Just think, the igloos are so compact and durable that even a snowcat could run over them.

Small wooden doors and a lantern resting in a niche carved out of the snow are the gateway to this incredible winter adventure. It's like entering a fairy tale. We enter our igloo and inside we find a wooden structure resting on the ice with a fur-covered mattress on top, plenty of pillows and blankets, the expedition sleeping bags, candles on the walls, decorations coming down from the ceiling, a mirror. There seems to be everything needed for the night.
What we packed instead were: a small bottle of sparkling wine (can also be bought locally). A scarf to keep your neck warm, water, a small snack for the night, bathrobes and towels, slippers for the sauna, warm clothing including thermal underwear and a power bank to charge your mobile phone battery during the night.
Snowshoeing
Just enough time to leave our belongings and it is time to set off on the snowshoe hike included in the experience. Five other couples and the guide are with us for the tour. We put on our snowshoes and around 4pm we set off! We walk surrounded by the snowy landscape at dusk, with headlamps illuminating our steps as they sink into the light snow. The route is not demanding, so we can fully enjoy the beauty of the landscape, the silence, the biting air and the colors of the sunset. Around 18:00 we returned to the igloo area.

On our return, a three-course menu awaited us in the igloo used as a restaurant, with typical South Tyrolean specialties: vegetable soup, goulash with dumplings and Kaiserschmarrn. All tasty and plentiful and accompanied by excellent wines and a grappa to round off the evening.
But the real highlight of the day was the wellness moment in the sauna and heated pool under the full moon. A truly romantic and unforgettable moment! The crackling of the fire, the moon shimmering in the snow and the nature surrounding us made the moment truly magical and intense.
After warming up and relaxing in the sauna, it was finally time to get into our igloo and slip into our sleeping bag with our hot water bag and of course well-dressed! Inside the igloo there is a great silence, the candles are reflected on the ice creating fun plays of light, the atmosphere, despite the ice around us is warm and welcoming!
The night passed pleasantly and the cold was not so bitter! When we wake up, the view is unique and a delicious breakfast awaits us in the hut. The experience is definitely worth repeating!
