Easter bread from South Tyrol
A traditional dish prepared in many households in South Tyrol for Easter.
This delicacy is only prepared for the Easter period. The bread with crunchy crust is often refined with aniseed. Together with ham, South Tyrolean bacon, boiled eggs and horseradish, this simple bread becomes a real delicacy. Just try preparing it at home!
The recipe:
Ingredients:
- 550 gr flour
- 40 gr baking powder
- 100 gr sugar
- 1/8 litre of milk
- 2 yolks
- 1/2 teaspoons of salt
- 100 gr butter
- lemon peel
Add some sugar, the baking powder and the warm milk to the flour and knead it. Let it rest for 20 min. When the volume has doubled, add the sugar, salt, lemon peel, butter, and the two yolks. Let it rest again until it doubles once more.
Now divide the dough into three parts and form them into circles. Now brush the three circles with a mix of yolk and milk. Put the Easter bread into the oven at 200° until it gets gold brown.
Have fun cooking!!!
