When the dew glistens on the blades of grass in the morning and the air smells pleasantly spicy, when the 360-degree panorama on the famous Kronplatz looks even more spectacular and everything is a little quieter than in summer, then it's autumn in Bruneck. On autumn hikes, you can discover the whole variety of Bruneck and the surrounding area - from the striking Bruneck Castle Hill to cosy villages, from colourful forests to sunlit Alpine meadows, from adventures for the whole family to the tranquillity of ancient places of power.

With the Golden Summit Weeks, autumn at Kronplatz and in Bruneck will be particularly beautiful this year: from 1 October to 9 November 2025, as a guest in the Bruneck holiday region, you have the opportunity to discover Kronplatz free of charge by cable car: The Kronplatz Guest Pass is your lift ticket during these Golden Summit Weeks and grants you one free ascent and descent with the cable car from Bruneck/Reischach or Olang up to the summit and back every day. And with this guest card, you can also use regional public transport throughout South Tyrol free of charge.

During the Golden Summit Weeks, a variety of experiences between town and mountain await you: With the Kronplatz Guest Pass and timely registration, you can, for example, get to know Bruneck better on a guided tour of the town free of charge or experience how butter and bread are made in the traditional way.

Guided hike on the Kronplatz: Via Artis

Or you can explore the highest open-air art gallery in the world. During the Golden Summit Weeks, a guided hike via the Via Artis to the Spitzhorn starts every Tuesday at 9.30 am at the Concordia bell on the summit of Kronplatz: the approximately 7 km long circular trail offers an exciting combination of culture and nature with 6 very different works by local artists and plenty of breathtaking mountain panoramas. The 3 entrance portals also provide interesting insights into topics relating to Kronplatz - from the plant world to Alpine farming.

Kronplatz is a real active mountain that offers many other experiences in addition to the inclusive services of the Golden Summit Weeks and hiking trails: from the bike park to the giant Skyscraper swing, from the MMM Corones to the Lumen (Museum of Mountain Photography), from the children's climbing trail to the wooden ball track.

The MMM Corones at Mt. Kronplatz is also an exciting museum in terms of its architecture.

The sun-kissed village of Pfalzen near Bruneck is perhaps not quite as well-known as Kronplatz, but also has a lot to offer: sweeping views of the Dolomite peaks and romantic churches, the Issinger Weiher pond and the high ropes course - and of course a variety of hiking trails.

Our tip for a family-friendly and varied autumn hike in Pfalzen is the themed trail "The rocks tell a tale". The circular hike starts at the schoolhouse in the village centre of Pfalzen and offers exciting stations on the theme of stone as well as beautiful resting and viewing points. The hike is around 9 kilometres long with no major differences in altitude.

Finally, it's time to head back up to Kronplatz: are you a connoisseur and want to get to know not only the hiking trails but also the culinary specialities of the region during your holiday in South Tyrol? Then we recommend the South Tyrolean Speck Festival as an autumn event: from 27 to 28 September 2025, you can get to know the best speck producers in the region and their delicious products on the summit plateau at 2,275 m above sea level.

This gourmet weekend comes before the Golden Summit Weeks. Therefore, the cable car ride up to Kronplatz (and back down again) is not free, but on this Saturday and Sunday the ticket for the ascent and descent is available at a reduced price. In case of bad weather, the South Tyrolean Speck Festival will take place at the town hall square and at the Tschurtschenthaler square in Bruneck.
