Kiens is located in the heart of Pustertal, at 784 meters above sea level and directly at Rienz river flowing along the entire valley.

The village is immersed in a green landscape, in the middle of flowering meadows and forests of incredible beauty. The municipality of Kiens has several districts: Ehrenburg, St. Sigmund, Hofern and Getzenberg with numerous farm houses.

Active holidays in summer & in winter

On the cycle path of Pustertal, will allow you to visit all the valley by bike, you can admire the beauty of the surrounding nature. Tennis courts, rafting and riding possibilities are available in Kiens too. The city of Bruneck offers much shopping fun as well as exciting events at any time of the year.

The natural bathing pond in Issing guarantees swimming fun for the whole family and can be reached in a few minutes by car. While parents relax near the lake, kids can explore the tours of the adjacent adventure park “Kronaction”.

The picturesque mountain world around Kiens and the popular hiking area of Mt. Kronplatz invite to dreamlike hikes and peak experiences with panoramic view. In the cosy mountain huts, you can taste traditional dishes from the region.

Passionate skiers and snowboarders will look forward to the well-prepared slopes of Mt. Kronplatz ski area, that is located not very far from Kiens neither. Descents with all levels of difficulty and a large snow park offer endless possibilities for ski newcomers and pros.

Sight in Kiens and surroundings:

  • Ehrenburg Castle in the eponymous district is a famous destination for excursions. However, it can only be visited from the outside today.
  • In the Gothic church of St. Sigmund, there is a worth-seeing wing altar by the Danube school, dating back to the 15th century.
  • In the crypt chapel of Maria Himmelfahrt pilgrimage church in Ehrenburg, you can see three remarkable representations of the Madonna.
  • If you love good cheese, you should visit Gatscher cheese farm. Guided tours are offered on request.
