The municipality of Kastelbell and Tschars is about 5,386 hectares large and has circa 2,400 inhabitants, living partly also in other districts like Galsaun, Juval with Messner's castle and Trumsberg on the left side of the valley and Marein, Latschinig, Freiberg and Tomberg on the right side. The wide bottom of the valley is surrounded by two contrasting mountain crests: the forested and shady Nörderberg and the sunny Sonnenberg.
Thanks to these two mountains, the climate in the valley is very dry and mild. Of course, this benefits locals and guests as well as the nature, which is partly characterized by lush fields, partly by barren meadows, by blooming apple trees and magnificent alpine roses.
In the orchards and vineyards around Kastelbell-Tschars you will find numerous sunny walking trails, which are optimally suitable for Nordic walking and hiking. Bikers have about 150 km of marked cycle paths through the villages and across whole Vinschgau. For winter sportsmen there is a year-round skiing region on the glacier Schnalstal. Finally, culture lovers can visit the mighty medieval castle Kastelbell.
