Skiing region Schnals

Not only the altitude and mountain panorama, but also the perfectly prepared slopes from September until May are the most outstanding characteristics of Schnals glacier skiing area around Mt. Hochjochferner.

Schnals skiing area in the surrounding area of Meran makes it easy for winter sports lovers: Within only six minutes, the cableway brings you to an altitude of 3,200 m with breath-taking view over the impressive peaks Weißkugel, Wildspitze and Similaun.

Children, however, will love the practice slopes at Lazaun and Glocken lift, that are perfect for beginners. In addition to Glocken lift, there is the “Kinderland” with tow magic carpets, a ski carousel and a tepee for active kids. For even more variety for families, there is the sunny Lazaun tobogganing run and the large offer of Ortler Skiarena, which also includes Schnals skiing area.

Training centre for professional skiers

Schnals glacier is a popular training spot for world-class athletes of all alpine and Nordic skiing disciplines, offering excellent training conditions. Grawand ski run offers about 40 training courses and the steep Leo Gurschler slope challenges slalom specialists. The panoramic cross-country ski run Hochjoch with 10 km of trails on open terrain welcomes cross-country skiers and biathletes.

Ski touring paradise

Until early summer, Schnals offers wonder ski mountaineering tours without long ascents and with Ötzi Glacier Tour as a special highlight. The tour goes from the top station along Hochjochferner to Tisenjoch, where the glacier mummy Ötzi was found. Enjoying the magnificent mountain world in Schnals, relaxing and forgetting about daily problems – snowshoe tours and winter hikes are perfect activities to spend extraordinary holidays surrounded by a unique snow landscape.
