How to reach the Seiser Alm
How do you get to the Seiser Alm? The high-altitude pasture can be reached by car, the Seiser Alm cable car or public transport. As the road to Compatsch is closed to private vehicles during the day and parking spaces must be booked in advance, you should plan your journey well in advance.
Access to the Seiser Alm: The most important information at a glance
- Access by car is permitted before 9:00 am and after 5:00 pm.
- From 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, the road leading uphill is closed to private vehicles.
- You can drive down from the Seiser Alm at any time.
- Online booking is required for the car parks (P1 + P2).
- Parking is prohibited on the Seiser Alm car parks between 11:00 pm and 5:00 am.
- For most day visitors, taking the Seiser Alm cable car from Seis is the most convenient option.
Why is access to the Seiser Alm restricted?
The Seiser Alm is situated within a landscape conservation area and partly within the Schlern-Rosengarten Nature Park. Restricting access reduces private car traffic and helps to preserve the natural environment, landscape and tranquillity of the high alpine pasture.

The road from Seis up to Compatsch is closed to private vehicles travelling uphill from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. This means that access is permitted before 9:00 am and again after 5:00 pm. Travelling downhill is permitted at all times of the day.
Access authorisation is checked at the St. Valentin checkpoint. Day visitors receive this authorisation automatically when booking a car park space online, which is required from 29 June 2026. A valid car park booking is also required for journeys uphill after 5:00 pm. Book a car park space.
Seiser Alm car park
Two paid car parks are available to day visitors on the Seiser Alm:
- P1 Spitzbühl: at the valley station of the Spitzbühl lift; parking fee of €15.00 per day; Compatsch can be reached in approx. 30 minutes on foot uphill or, in summer, by bus route 14.
- P2 Compatsch: right in Compatsch, parking fee of €30.00 per day, centrally located on the Seiser Alm.
Both car parks must be booked online and paid for at the time of booking. Bookings can be made no earlier than six days before your planned visit and are subject to availability.
Good to know: Only day-use parking spaces are available at both car parks. Overnight stays in vehicles and camping on the Seiser Alm are prohibited.

The easiest way to reach the Seiser Alm is by taking the Seiser Alm cable car from Seis. There is a large, free car park. In addition, two pay-and-display car park garages are available.
From these car parks, the cable car takes visitors directly to Compatsch in around 15 minutes. Bicycles and dogs can also be taken on board for a fee.
Seis am Schlern and the valley station of the Seiser Alm cable car are easily accessible by public transport. Bus services run from Bozen, Brixen and Klausen, as well as from Kastelruth, Völs and other villages in the holiday region. Depending on the season, the Seiser Alm Express (Line 10) also runs between Seis, Kastelruth and the Seiser Alm.
Special arrangements for overnight guests
Guests who have booked accommodation directly on the Seiser Alm will receive the necessary access authorisation in advance from their host. This means they can drive to their accommodation at any time on the day of arrival, and leave at any time on the day of departure. In addition, guests staying on the Seiser Alm are permitted to drive from their accommodation to Compatsch before 10:00 am and after 5:00 pm during their stay.
Access during the off-season
When the Seiser Alm cable car is closed in spring and late autumn, the road to Compatsch is usually open to private vehicles all day. The exact periods depend on the cable car’s operating hours and may vary from year to year. You should therefore check the latest information on access to the Seiser Alm and cable car operations before setting off.
