Nature Park Puez-Geisler

Peitlerkofel and Geislerspitzen, Sassongher and Cir: The imposing Dolomite peaks in the Nature Park Puez-Geisler are popular destinations for ambitious climbers - and spectacular photo motifs, especially at sunrise and sunset.

The Nature Park Puez-Geisler is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites and shows an incredible scenic diversity, from the Würzjoch Pass in the north to the Grödnerjoch in the south. Here, geologists will find all the rock formations that are typical of the Dolomites.

Exciting rock formations

The nature reserve covers an area of 10,722 ha, and parts of the municipal areas of Abtei, Corvara, Villnöss, St. Martin in Thurn, St. Ulrich and Wolkenstein in Gröden. The Villnöss Geisler, also known as the Geisler peaks, are particularly impressive. Their Ladin name is very appropriate: "Odles" means needles. But not only these pointed rocky peaks are eye-catchers. Peitlerkofel and Sassongher also tower into the sky as distinctive and widely visible mountain giants.

Climbing and hiking

The Nature Park Puez-Geisler offers a variety of routes for mountain sport enthusiasts: For example the via ferrata on the Sass Rigais or the hike to the Lech de Crespëina, a picturesque little lake where also the well-known Dolomites High Alpine Route no. 2 passes by. A family-friendly circular trail starts at the car park in Zans at the head of the Villnöss valley: the Zans Nature Experience Trail. In the nature park, attentive nature lovers can not only admire the flora and fauna, but also discover beautiful minerals and fossils. But please note: Collecting them is of course forbidden in the nature reserve.

Visitor centres

At the car park in Zans, you will also find the information centre on the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites. The exhibition there provides an overview of an unimaginably long period of time: from the formation of the Dolomites around 270 million years ago to the present day. The Nature Park House Puez-Geisler in St. Magdalena in Villnöss introduces visitors to the geology, flora and fauna of the nature park, and focuses also on alpinism.
