MMM Ripa in Bruneck

Reinhold Messner knows how to make themselves known: in the past with extreme expeditions, such as those on the Himalayas and later with the project Messner Mountain Museum. The MMM Ripa at Bruneck Castle is part of this exciting museum project. Other Soth Tyrolean locations of the Messner Mountain Museum are at Juval Castle, in Sulden, at Sigmundskron Castle and on the summit of Mt. Kronplatz.

The heritage of the mountains

In Tibetan, "ri" means mountain and "pa" means man. The Messner Mountain Museum Ripa in Bruneck brings visitors closer to the culture and way of life of mountain peoples. Whether in Africa or Asia, South America or Europe - life in mountain regions presents people all over the world with special challenges.
 
On his expeditions, Reinhold Messner has met many people who have been shaped by life in the mountains. The permanent exhibition "The Heritage of the Mountains" focuses on the everyday life of various mountain peoples, but also tells of their religion and the effects of tourism.

Bruneck Castle

The castle was built in 13th century and in later centuries it was several times restored. The castle is located just above the city of Bruneck and can be reached on foot. In the inner courtyard of the castle, which can be reached via a wooden bridge, there is a semi-circular tower with a staircase leading to the prince's rooms and other rooms above.
