Folklore Museum in Dietenheim

How about a travel back to the rural past? The South Tyrolean Folklore Museum in Dietenheim near Bruneck aims at reviving South Tyrolean everyday history on a large outdoor area.

Farm houses, granaries, stables and barns full of hay and straw display how farms lived and worked in former times. Workshops with agricultural implements and vehicles by blacksmiths, rope makers, cartwrights and basket weavers show, how the rural craftsmen and day labourers earned their living. The stately manor house, however, displays the atmosphere of aristocratic life in the countryside.

Folklore that also pleases children

If you would like to make sure that the museum visit is an unforgettable experience for kids, you should inform yourselves in advance about special events. On these days, kids will learn more about baking bread, working on wood, shearing sheep and chopping cabbage. All kids will be fascinated by the creaking wood mill wheels or by the clattering water pump. The museum especially comes to life with the pigs wallowing in the mud, the impressive billy goat or the cosily grazing cows.
