Dairy Drei Zinnen in Toblach

Have you always wanted to know how cheese is produced and why certain types of cheese have holes? The Show Dairy Drei Zinnen in Toblach will be the perfect place for you.

The dairy in Toblach in Hochpustertal was founded at the end of the 19th century. At that time, several dairy associations were founded in Pustertal and in entire South Tyrol. Their purpose was to reduce a lot of work for the single farmers and to apply better hygiene standards. Today, the common processing and marketing of the milk products are paramount of the dairies.

In 2004, the show dairy was opened in the new building. Visitors are offered a small museum giving interesting insights into the past of traditional milk processing and cheese production in South Tyrol. In addition to exhibition objects, films about the landscape, the daily life of the South Tyrolean farmers and cheese production can be watched too.

From the visitors’ gallery, you can watch the whole process of cheese production and see the master cheese maker doing his work. Afterwards, a guided tour in the ripening cellar will clarify the question about the cheese holes. Furthermore, the visitors can learn more about the high art of storing, the different ways of producing cheese as well as about ripening and refining.

After the visit you will have the possibility to taste and buy the various products in the dairy shop in Toblach. The following products are produced in the dairy: a variety of typical cheese, fresh milk, butter, yoghurt, cream and ricotta.

Guided tours are offered in German, Italian and English language. Groups should register before. The whole circuit has no access barriers.
