Snowshoe hiking in Eisacktal

Nevertheless, also the Eisacktal is a recommendable destination for an active winter holiday, exactly because the slopes and winter hiking trails aren’t this crowded as in the Dolomites. Everything is much quieter and slower – also the snowshoe hikes.

The Eisacktal offers a lot of opportunities for snowshoe hikers, leading through beautiful mountain pastures, silent woods and sunny meadows. Here we have some nice snowshoe excursions in this region.

Tip 1: Ratschings

The hiking-tour lasts 3-4 hours and brings you from Ratschings (Hotel Larchhof) to the mountain pasture Wumbls. The path has the number 10 and it is marked red-white. The hut up there isn’t opened in wintertime but outside there are desks and settles, where you can have a rest.

Tip 2: Villnöss

On this snow-shoe hiking tour you walk from Zanser Alm (last place reachable by car in Villnöss) to the mountain pasture Tschantschenon following the path number 6, which is located at the feet of the mighty Geisler mountains. There you can enjoy the great view over the surrounding mountains before you turn back to Zanser Alm on path 35a and 36. The whole excursion is 4 hours long.

Tip 3: mountain pasture Rodeneck

From the car park Zumis in Rodeneck you follow the cross-country ski run to the mountain pasture of Rodeneck. There you have to take path 2 to alpine hut Roner hut and after other 1,5 hours you reach the hut Starkenfeld. Go on for half an hour and you arrive at the top of the Mt. Astjoch (2,196 m), the aim of this excursion. All in all the tour lasts 5-6 hours.

Tip 4: Mt. Königsanger

Starting point is the farm Kühhof above Latzfons. Follow the forest track and then turn to right on a steep path. After 45 minutes you reach the mountain pasture and the peak of Mt. Königsanger at 2,436 m above sea level. The excursion is 4 hours long and medium difficult.
