Lamb Weeks of “Villnösser Brillenschaf”

Where: St. Peter, Villnöss
Region: Eisacktal

Taste culinary specialities of “Villnösser Brillenschaf” sheep and participate in exciting activities!

Also this year in autumn, the Villnöss valley hosts the Lamb Weeks of the typical sheep from Villnöss, which is also called “sheep with glasses” (German: “Brillenschaf”). Numerous restaurants in the valley as well as several partner companies of “Villnösser Brillenschaf” will spoil you with tasty dishes based on the meat of these local sheep for a few days.

The sheep of Villnöss is the oldest breed of sheep in South Tyrol an dates back to a crossbreeding in the 18th century. The characteristic black colour around ears and eyes give it its name. Fallen into oblivion for a long time, the sheep has achieved new importance nowadays. This is not only due to the perfect adaptability of these animals, but also due to the quality of their fibred meat.

Special events at the Lamb Weeks

Two special events are organised during the Lamb Weeks. First, you can participate at adventurous “lamb hikes” and discover the habits of mountain farming and agricultural products in Villnöss. Second, families will look forward to a felting afternoon at the visitor centre of Puez Geisler Nature Park. Here you can learn processing real wool of Villnöss sheep.
