Ice Climbing World Championship
Region: Meran and environs
At the end of January 2017, the world’s best ice-climbers will come to South Tyrol and furnish proof of their ability on one of the biggest ice towers throughout Europe. It will surely be a spectacular event!
The Icefight became a World Cup became a world championship… This is the abridged version of the career of the little ice climbing competition in the Passeiertal valley that became the most important ice-climbing contest of the year.
It’s no wonder that the international ice-climbing federation has chosen the ice tower in Rabenstein near Moos in Passeier for the upcoming world championship. On the one hand, the facilities with a new multipurpose building belong to the biggest and most difficult ones throughout Europe.
On the other hand, the winter temperatures are mostly perfect for ice-climbing. In addition, over the past years, the valley north of Meran has established its reputation as a venue for ice-climbing events – at the latest with the World Cup in 2013.
Ice-climbers – ready, steady, go!
About 150 ice-climbers from 25 nations will participate in the Ice Climbing World Championship from 27 to 29 January 2017 – among them many stars of this ice-cold kind of winter sport.
During the competitions in the discipline "Lead" (difficulty climbing), the competitors will give anything to emerge victorious – and guarantee tension and action!
