Salewa Basecamp Meran
Region: Meran and environs
It’s pretty cold outside, but in the heavy sleeping bag you won’t feel the degrees below zero and the snow-white mat under your back. So you can completely concentrate on the still (or the sounds) of the winter night and enjoy the special atmosphere to the full.
Everybody can go camping in summer. In winter, however, it requires a little bit more thirst for adventure, resistance (to the cold) and appropriate equipment – above all, if the outdoor night takes place in the middle of the snow-covered mountains at 2,300 meters above sea level.
Tents suitable for winter, hide sleeping bags, blankets and more are available from 29 December 2016 to 7 January 2017 (except 31 December) in the Salewa Basecamp in the winter sports area Meran 2000. You can reach it directly from Meran by a short ascent with the new cable car up to Mt. Piffinger Köpfl. From there, you have to walk about 30 minutes to the chairlift, which ends on Mt. Kleiner Mittager on circa 2,300 meters.
There you’ll find all in all 10 expedition tents of the Salewa company, where you can spend a romantic, extraordinary, maybe a little bit eerie, but in any event special night in the open countryside. A warm dinner with typical South Tyrolean culinary delights and the breakfast on the next morning are served in the nearby Mittager Refuge.
Inclusive of return journey with the cable car, guided hike and catering a winter night in the Salewa Basecamp in the middle of the Sarntal Alps costs 148.00€ per person.
