Giro d'Italia in South Tyrol
South Tyrol connoisseurs know: The steeper the routes and the more exhausting the climbs, the nicer the surrounding mountain scenery that pays for every exertion.
Probably also the organizers of the international cycle race Giro d’Italia agree about this.
Nearly every year the map of the legendary cycle tour through Italy includes a stage in the South Tyrolean mountains and almost every time the Giro d’Italia revalues its mountain program with a challenging stage in the South Tyrolean Dolomites, through other mountain regions or on famous mountain passes.
For instance in the last years the participants of the Giro had to reach several times the mountain top of Kronplatz and manage ascending slopes up to 24 %.
This year, the Giro d'Italia doesn't include this difficult distance, but the bikers have to tackle two demanding stages scheduled for 29th and 30th May 2019 in the South Tyrolean Dolomites.
Details of the Giro d'Italia 2019 in Trentino South Tyrol:
- May 29th – stage 17: Commezzadura (Val di Sole)-Biathlon centre Antholz, 180 km
- May 30th – stage 18: Olang-Santa Maria di Sala, 220 km
