Lace-making in Prettau

Necessity is the mother of invention
With the closure of the mine in 1893, many families didn’t have an income anymore. However, prudent as the inhabitants of Prettau are, they have revived this traditional art. Thanks to the fabrication of fine laces the greatest need could be alleviated as the handcrafted laces were shipped to the whole world.
Until today, the handcrafted laces have become a real gem in the whole world. In order that young people will learn this traditional craft in Prettau today as well, the lace-making school in Prettau was founded in 1948. The lace-making association regularly shows its skills. The lace-making association are announced in the event calendar of Ahrntal Tourist Office.
