Mt. Moosstock
With 3,059 m Mount Moosstock in Tauferer Ahrntal is not the highest in Tauferer Ahrntal Valley, but surely the Moosstock is the one with the most spectacular panorama view to the ice-mountains of Rieserferner Group vis-à-vis.
The Mount Moosstock is easy to hike: the signposts are very good, but you need mountain experience: there are some climbing passages to get over.
Tour description:
The mountain tour begins in Ahornach, a small mountain village above Sand in Taufers in Tauferer Ahrntal Valley. Follow path 10b here. First of all you cross meadows and woods and after about 2 hours you will reach the "Schlafhäuser" huts. There you will find the first markers to Mount Moosstock. Follow them and soon you will come to the wood line.
Go on and you will reach the Southwestern edge: there are some passages to climb, but they aren’t very difficult. After the edge you arrive at the peak-ridge and soon at the peak of Mount Moosstock, where you have a fantastic view over the Alps. (5 hours from Ahornach).
The way back to the valley is the same one as the rise.
