South Tyrol in case of rain

You are looking forward to your holidays for weeks or even months and finally it rains. Don’t worry, there are many things to do on a rainy day in South Tyrol.

Our selected tips for rainy days in South Tyrol have something to offer for all tastes – be it if you are athletic, interested in culture or if you would just like to relax in your accommodation in South Tyrol.

9 tips for a rainy day in South Tyrol

  1. Wellness
If you would like to spend your holidays in a hotel with wellness area, you can benefit from the rainy weather for enjoying the indoor pool, the whirlpool and the sauna world the best way possible. A few hotels also have children’s pools and family saunas for the small guests.
  2. Indoor and adventure pools
If you choose an apartment, a B&B or a hotel without wellness area, you can discover the local indoor and adventure pools. Acquafun in Innichen, the thermal baths in Meran, Adventure Pool Naturns, Cron4 in Reischach or Acquarena in Brixen are only some of the most popular swimming pools in South Tyrol. Most of them offer funny pools for kids and water slides, but also excellent wellness areas for adults.
  3. Museums
Even if you and your family are not the classical museum visitors, you should absolutely see the wonderful world of museums in South Tyrol. In addition to classics, such as the Museum of Archaeology, the Museum of Modern Art or the Diocesan Museum, you can also visit very special museums, such as the Train World, the Crib Museum or the Messner Mountain Museum Corones on top of Mt. Kronplatz.
  4. Climbing halls
Athletic persons, who would like to be active also on rainy days, will love indoor climbing in South Tyrol.
  5. City & shopping tours
If you have older kids, you can perfectly go on a shopping tour through Bozen, Brixen, Bruneck, Sterzing or Meran on a rainy day. This allows you to buy a souvenir of your holidays for your family and friends at home.
  6. Cinema and a visit of the Planetarium
A rainy day is a good opportunity to watch a movie at the cinema. In Bozen, you can choose between smaller cinemas or also the Cineplexx. Other cinemas are located in Bruneck, Brixen and Kaltern. Moreover, a special experience is the Planetarium in Gummer. Here, you can see interesting films about the solar system and the universe with a sophisticated 3D technique. The Planetarium also offers presentations for kids and families.
  7. Walking in the rain or hiking
There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes! With a good equipment, you can also go walking or hiking in the magnificent South Tyrolean natural landscape. A walk in the rain in the fresh air of a forest is wonderful too. Ideally, on your route there will be a good inn or a mountain hut, where you can enjoy delicious South Tyrolean specialities.
  8. Castles, churches & monasteries
South Tyrol has a high number of worth-seeing castles, ruins, historical buildings and monasteries. Some of them are open to the public and offer interesting exhibitions. Most of the South Tyrolean churches can be visited every day, unless there is no mass at the moment.
  9. Crawl into the hotel bed
Are you still searching for other tips allowing you to relax entirely? Then you should seek a cosy corner in the hotel or cuddle up into your hotel bed, listen to the falling rain, observe the wandering wafts of mist and read a good book or some exciting South Tyrolean legends.
