Markets in South Tyrol

If you would like to get to know an original part of South Tyrol, a very authentic side of it, apart from the image transported by publicity, you should explore one of the typical markets in the region.

There you can see how multi-cultural South Tyrol is: one speaks German, the other one Italian, the kids eat chips and the mums buy traditional farmer’s cheese. South Tyrol combines the advantages of the German and Italian culture and nowhere else as at the market you can see this mix better.

Throughout the region you will find smaller, weekly markets and farmers' markets. The bigger ones normally take place once a year on important dates.

Weekly markets

  • Monday: St. Pauls/Eppan, Brixen and Terlan
  • Tuesday: Bozen (Haslach), St. Michael/Eppan, Sterzing (from the middle of April to the middle of October), Kaltern (farmers' market), Seis am Schlern (farmers' market)
  • Wednesday: Bruneck, Kaltern, Mals, St. Christina (in summer only), St. Johann in Ahrntal (bi-weekly), Brixen (farmers' market), Leifers/St. Jakob (farmers' market)
  • Thursday: Girlan, Bozen, Kastelruth, Leifers, Branzoll and Schlanders
  • Friday: Sterzing (farmers' market from April to October), Bozen (farmer's market) and Kastelruth (farmers' market)
  • Saturday: Bozen (Siegesplatz square), Mölten, Naturns and Niederdorf (first Saturday from April to November); farmers' markets: Sarntal, Kaltern, Leifers, Brixen, Bozen

Traditional markets

  • Stegener Markt“ in Bruneck at the last weekend in October
  • Sealamorkt“ in Glurns on All Soul’s Day (2nd November)
  • Michaeli-Markt“ in Martell at Saint Michael’s Day (29th September)
  • Markus-Markt“ in Auer at Saint Markus‘ Day (25th April)
  • St. Martin's market” in Girlan at Saint Martin’s Day (11th November)
  • Josefimarkt” in Salurn on 19th March or the following Sunday
  • Christmas markets in December in many villages and cities
