Neves reservoir in Mühlwald

The crystal-clear lake at the foot of peaks that are more than 3,000 m high can be reached by car and on foot from Lappach, which is part of the municipality of Mühlwald.

The water reservoir is located at about 1,800 m and is one of the most popular excursion destinations in Tauferer Ahrntal holiday region. Depending on your endurance and physical condition, you can either walk around the lake or climb one of the high peaks in the surroundings.

In the North of Neves reservoir, you can find the well-known and majestic peaks of Hoher Weißzint (3,371 m), Großer Möseler (3,479 m) and Turnerkamp (3,418 m). As well, at the foot of these magnificent rock formations there is the Neveser high-alpine route offering a dreamlike view to the lake and the glaciers in the environs.

The area around Neves reservoir is also ideal for hikers and mountaineers. Eisbrugg Hut (or Edelraut Hut) can be reached within 2 hours, Chemnitzer Hut within 1.5 hours. For climbing Mt. Hoher Weißzint, you should calculate about 5 hours, for Mt. Möseler 6 hours and for Turnerkamp even longer, being also the most challenging from a climbing viewpoint.

The road leading to Neves reservoir is only open in summer and subject to tolls from 7 am to 8 pm. In winter, the access is closed due to high danger of avalanches. If you would like to make ski tours in this district, you should consider the current snow and avalanche situation in all cases. Here, the most wonderful ski tours are possible in spring enjoying descents on corn snow.
