Lake Felixer Weiher

Just as the nearby Ulten Valley, Deutschnonsberg impresses with authenticity and tranquillity. On the border between South Tyrol and Trentino, travellers can enjoy a high level of silence and nature in this place. One of the most beautiful spots at Deutschnonsberg is Lake Felixer Weiher that is also called Lake Tret. As revealed by archaeological finds, hunters settled here already during the Stone Age.

Natural beauty during all seasons

A little bit above the village St. Felix there is a parking lot. From there, hikers can reach the lake in approximately one hour on foot. The path goes across meadows and woods. In summer, the larch meadows offer a wonderful sea of flowers; in autumn, they are shining with golden colours. In winter, the surroundings of Lake Felixer Weiher are a paradise for winter hikers and snowshoe hikers as well as for tobogganers, who can start their descent at the nearby Felixer Alm mountain hut.

The lake is listed as a nature reserve and is surrounded by information panels allowing visitors to learn more about the local flora and fauna. In summer, the lake in the woods is ideal for a refreshing path as well as a wonderful stopover during mountain bike tours. Also, Lake Felixer Weiher is a good starting point for hikes to Schönegg viewing platform as well as to Mt. Gantkofel.

Impressive natural scenery & worth-seeing buildings

Another recommendable hike goes from St Felix to the homonymous waterfall, whose thundering waters dropping down about 75 m. From a viewing platform, that can be reached via 170 grades you can best see the waterfall. The hamlet Unsere Liebe Frau im Walde – it forms the municipality of Unsere Liebe Frau im Walde-St. Felix together with St. Felix – is a famous place of pilgrimage thanks to its wonderful St. Mary’s Ascension church.

Another worth-seeing destination is the Gampen bunker on Gampen pass. Fascist dictator Benito Mussolini did not trust his ally, the national socialist dictator Adolf Hitler, and built thousands of fortifications along the Italian border. As a part of this Alpine wall, the bunker on Deutschnonsberg was created between 1940 and 1941. Today, the bunker offers an exposition of minerals and pictures about the historical Gampen road.
