Wool Road

When the centre of St. Leonhard in Passeier is transformed into a stage for sheep, wool and traditional crafts, it means the Wool Road is taking place once again. For more than a decade, this event has brought to life the importance of the local sheep as a versatile farm animal, combining regional knowledge with the creative atmosphere of a market.

The Wool Road will take place on Saturday, 3 October 2026, from 9 am to 4 pm in the centre of St. Leonhard in Passeier – whatever the weather. The focus is on local sheep, their precious wool and the many ways in which it can be processed. Visitors can look forward to a varied programme centred on sheep farming, wool and craftsmanship

The idea for the Wool Trail originated in 2015 on the initiative of Franz Haller, senior partner at Spinnradl, who has been involved in processing local mountain sheep’s wool for decades. The event was launched in collaboration with the South Tyrolean Felt and Wool Association and the Passeier Sheep Breeders’ Association. Today, it vividly illustrates the importance of sheep farming and the wool craft to the culture and traditions of the Passeiertal Valley.
