Palais Mamming Museum in Meran

The collections of the Municipal Museum of Meran include about 100,000 objects. They are located in Palais Mamming since 2015, and a part of them is shown at the permanent exhibition as well as during temporary exhibitions. Before, the Baroque Palais Mamming was extensively restored and expanded by a modern annex in direction of Küchelberg, forming a spacious museum and attractive event location for concerts and readings.

Archaeological findings & contemporary artworks

During a travel in time from prehistory to the present, visitors can see an Egyptian mummy, a typewriter by Peter Mitterhofer and a death mask of Napoleon for instance. Particularly interesting is the historical collections of weapons from Sudan, that was donated by Rudolf Carl von Slatin. The Austrian officer that was also called Pascha, has spent the last years of his adventurous life predominantly in Meran.

A place for culture & history

Also, the architecture of the museum itself next to the parish church of Meran offers exciting contrasts: frescoes and stucco in the Baroque rooms on one hand and the lit nude rock wall of Küchlberg as the closure of the modern museum wing. The Palais Mamming Museum is also a perfect venue for vernissages, book presentations and other cultural events. Via stone and metal staircases, the museum building is also connected to the most famous promenade of Meran, the Tappeiner path.
