Homecoming of the livestock
At the beginning of autumn livestock, alpine herdsmen and dairymen come back from the meadows, where they passed the summer month.
Down into the valley they were welcomed by the whole village and many curious onlookers with a very big celebration. In South Tyrol the livestock’s homecoming has become something like a thanksgiving feast for the farmers and the traditions is still important today.
The homecoming of the livestock is an interesting event also for guest. They can see the procession of farmers and wonderfully decorated cows moving through the village. Often they are accompanied by lively music and delightful farmers’ markets, where there are sold typical and homemade products like bread, cheese, milk, butter and fruits.
