If you’re looking for a ‘Flying Fox’ in South Tyrol, you’ve come to the right place, as the terms ‘Flying Fox’ and ‘zip line’ are usually used interchangeably. What’s meant is a spectacular cable slide where participants glide safely through the air, secured to steel cables.
The principle is simple: steel cables are stretched between several fixed points, to which participants are secured using a special pulley system. After setting off, you’ll hurtle across the landscape at high speed. The wind in your face, the speed and the view down into the depths make the ride a truly special experience.
But don’t worry: the entire facility is regularly inspected and meets the highest safety standards. No prior experience is required. After a brief briefing, participants are securely clipped in by experienced guides and brought to a controlled stop at the end of each run.
Flying Fox in South Tyrol: What you need to know
Whether ‘zip line’ or ‘Flying Fox’ – both terms describe the same leisure activity. Whilst ‘zip line’ is commonly used internationally, the term ‘Flying Fox’ is also widely used in German-speaking countries. In South Tyrol, both terms are used for the spectacular rope slides that combine adventure with a nature experience.
Incidentally, the idea behind zip lines is by no means new. Originally, taut steel cables were used to transport people and materials across rough terrain. It was only later that these evolved into the modern Flying Fox and zip line facilities, which are now among the most popular outdoor activities worldwide.
