Ice climbing in South Tyrol
An exciting sport: fascinating ice climbing. Doing it for the first time you will feel a bit weird.
You will have a helmet on your head, big gloves and ice axes in your hands, a belt including rope on your hips and bulky alpine boots with crampons on your feet.
And also the look up isn’t very promising: an icy wall mounts up and wants to be climbed. A thrilling experience awaits you. When you bat you ice axes in the ice and you can feel the power of the ice you will be immediately fallen for ice climbing.
In South Tyrol there are a lot of frozen waterfalls and artificial ice climbing towers. The most popular spots are situated in Rein in Taufers and Passeiertal Valley. On the ice tower in Rabenstein in Passeiertal Valley for example the ice climbing world championships take place.
If you are a beginner, we recommend contacting a guide and to not go alone in the iced walls. The alpine guides can also lend you the equipment.
