Jakobsweg - Way of St. James

Maybe not many of you will have heard of the Way of St. James, but many of you have surely heard of the famous pilgrimage that leads to Santiago de Compostela, in Spain!

The Way of St. James is nothing but a stretch of the famous trail that goes up in Spain. Time ago the pilgrims crossed South Tyrol from Weissebach to Brenner Pass to reach France and Spain.

Let's say that starting from South Tyrol to reach Santiago de Compostela is really a challenging process, but those who come to spend their holidays in South Tyrol and wants to get on the road to reflect, think and pray, can do it for sure on the footsteps of ancient pilgrims, along a path of 130 km and almost 3,000 meters in altitude.

The Way of St. James in South Tyrol is divided into 6 stages, each of which tells a story and shows unique landscapes and beautiful nature! Along the way, the pilgrims will find a variety of accommodation to spend the night, in addition to places of worship and testimonies of the ancient history of the trail!

The route of the Way of St. James in South Tyrol

  • Step 1: from Weissebach to Welsberg  up to 5 hours
  • Step 2: from Welsberg to Bruneck up to 4 hours
  • Step 3: from Bruneck to Niedervintl  5 hours
  • Stage 4: From Niedervintl to Franzensfeste
  • Stage 5: From Franzensfeste to Sterzing
  • Stage 6: from Sterzing to Brenner pass
