Mt. Paternkofel

Do you know the postcard motif with the famous north walls of Three Peaks?

And you know from where the photo was shot, and still is? From Paternkofel, the neighbouring mountains of the Three Peaks, 2744 meters high, spectacular and easy to climb.

In the 1st World War the Paternkofel was hard fought over, as many Dolomites mountains had. Also, today the Italians and Austrians  front lines are witnessed by numerous tunnels and walkways.

Here we described a climbing path that follows the tunnels  of the 1st World War and that give fabulous views of the Three Peaks.

Tour description:

The hike starts at Auronzo Refuge, reaching by car. After the refuge you have to take a tunnel, of about 600 m long. You need a light. From here you go steeply to the summit: the views of the Three Peaks and the surrounding mountain is fantastic!

On  the same route, back to the Three Peaks hut.

Details of the tour:

  • Length: 4 hours
  • Difference in altitude: 500 m
  • Difficulty: Easy
