Music, film & theatre in South Tyrol

Some of the most famous locations are, for instance, the Kurhaus and the civic theatre in Meran. Since many centuries, they offer elegant and unique performances with internationally famous artists. In occasion of special occurrences, the traditional bands play in the streets and pavilions of various localities. One of the most beautiful open-air theatres is, without any doubt, the lake stage in the Gardens of Castle Trauttmansdorff. Surrounded by water lilies and palms, artists from all over the world perform in front a high number of visitors every year.

It may easily happen, that nature becomes the stage. In fact, cultural and music events often take place on squares, meadows and pastures. For instance, the Choir Festival in Hochpustertal takes place in various locations in Pustertal, with performances by international choirs.

The mountain scape in South Tyrol has always attracted many famous artists. Gustav Mahler, an important Austrian composer, was deeply inspired by the beauty of South Tyrol and created some of his most famous works in a small house in Toblach. Here, in the nearby Grand Hotel, the “Gustav Mahler music weeks” are taking place since many years. The festival of classic music is held in Gustav Mahler concert hall, which offers excellent acoustic conditions.
