Tips for bikers in Vinschgau
The Vinschgau Valley is a paradise for bikers. Here, from spring to autumn, not only mountain bikers but also e-bikers and racing cyclists get their money's worth.
If you spend your holidays in Vinschgau and if you love cycling, you will look forward to a large selection of beautiful bike tours and professional bike schools. In addition, there are great infrastructures regarding bike transport, shuttle services and bike rentals.
Bike transport in & along Vinschgau railway line
Basically, transporting your bikes with Vinschgau railway is allowed with a corresponding ticket. In case of a big number of cyclists, there is no guarantee that the bike is transported – despite valid tickets.
During the long summer season from the end of April to the end of October, there is a separate bicycle transport by truck along the route between Meran and Mals. In the stations of Meran, Algund and Marling it is not permitted to take the bike on the Vinschgau railway line during this period (daily from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm & from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm).
Section Meran-Töll
The Meran-Töll railway section is expected to remain closed until late summer 2023 due to construction work. There is a rail replacement service with buses as well as a separate bicycle transport.
Section Meran-Mals
A separate bicycle transport is offered also from Meran railway station to several stations in the Vinschgau Valley: with 4 trips daily from 18th to 30th June (and possibly 1st to 17th October) and 6 trips in July, August and September.
Departure times of the bike transport at Meran railway station:
- 9:16 am | 10:16 am | 11:16 am (not in June & October)
- 3:16 pm (not in June and October) | 4:16 pm | 5:16 pm
The bikes can be dropped off at the train station in Meran at the earliest 30 minutes and at the latest 5 minutes before the departure of the shuttle. They can then be picked up at the train stations of Naturns, Latsch, Schlanders, Spondinig or Mals. The price for transport is the same as for bike transport by train.
