The Vinschgau Valley is a paradise for bikers. Here, from spring to autumn, not only mountain bikers but also e-bikers and racing cyclists get their money's worth.
If you spend your holidays in Vinschgau and if you love cycling, you will look forward to a large selection of beautiful bike tours and professional bike schools. In addition, there are great infrastructures regarding bike transport, shuttle services and bike rentals.
Bike transport in & along Vinschgau railway line
Basically, transporting your bikes with Vinschgau railway is allowed with a corresponding ticket. In case of a big number of cyclists, there is no guarantee that the bike is transported – despite valid tickets.
From 13 May to 29 October 2023, as in other years, there will be a separate bicycle transport by truck between Meran and Mals with daily departures at 9.16 am, 10.16 am, 3.16 pm and 4.16 pm. The bikes can be handed in at the railway station of Meran, bus platform Z, 30 to 5 minutes before the departure time at the latest. On Saturday and Sunday (except 12/13 August and 19/20 August) there is also a bicycle transport service with departures from the railway station of Mals at 11.16, 12.16, 17.16 and 18.16. The bikes can be collected at the railway stations of Naturns, Latsch, Schlanders, Spondinig or Mals. For the bicycle transport, a reservation is required at least 24 hours in advance via +39 0473 201500 (8am-6pm) or via info@suedtirol-rad.com.
The railway section between Meran and Töll is expected to remain closed until October 2023. In addition, from 5 June 2023 until presumably the end of the year, the Vinschgau railway line will only run on weekdays from Monday to Friday and on 12, 13, 15, 19 and 20 August, in each case only during the day. On the remaining Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays and later in the evening, buses (line B250) will provide the replacement service.
As well, Vinschgau offers different private bike shuttles that can travel with a minimum number of persons to selected destinations. These private shuttles also offer an individual shuttle service.
Through Vinschgau by rental bike
With the combined ticket bikemobil Card, you can rent a bike for one day at numerous rental stations by Südtirol Rad, Papin Sport and Südtirolbike in the entire holiday region of South Tyrol: This allows you to combine a bike excursion and means of public transport perfectly in the warm months of the year.
Please note that most bike rentals are closed over lunchtime and that not all have identical opening hours.
