Museums as places of encounter
The International Museum Day is organized worldwide by the Council of Museums, ICOM. This year, the event’s motto is “Museums unite a divided world” – a theme that particularly highlights the role of museums as places of exchange, dialogue and understanding.
In South Tyrol, numerous institutions are taking part on 17 Mai 2026 – from the Marienberg Monastery in Vinschgau to the LUMEN Museum at the summit of Kronplatz. The programme is highly varied: guided tours, workshops, special exhibitions and interactive activities make a visit to the museum an experience for both children and adults.
The spectrum ranges from archaeological and natural history collections to contemporary art and regional cultural history.
