Welcome to the Kalchgruberhof in Ultental!

On the sunny side of the Ultental, at an altitude of 1,450 m, surrounded by peace and nature, lies the Kalchgruber farmstead, which also includes about three hectares of meadows and five hectares of forest. From our house you can enjoy a wonderful view of the surroundings and the mountains of the Ultental. A holiday on our farm will be a unique and unforgettable experience for your family. If you like farm life, you will love our farm! Our cows are milked twice a day and their milk is processed into excellent cheese and yoghurt at the dairy in Meran. In addition to the cattle, we also raise pigs and chickens, which provide us with fresh eggs for our guests every day, and our garden is inhabited by our dog, our cats and our rabbits, who love to be pampered all day long.

Comfort, breakfast basket & farm products

Our two holiday apartments, Alpenrose and Enzian offer plenty of space and make you feel at home. Both are about 80 m² in size, have 2 bedrooms, kitchen-living room, living room, bathroom, hallway, SAT-TV and free WLAN, one or two balconies and a terrace. The furniture, wall elements and wooden ceiling in the bedrooms are made of local solid wood from Swiss pine and spruce. The parquet floors and a wood-burning stove in the kitchen create a cosy atmosphere and give a romantic touch. In the morning, you get our breakfast baskets with homemade products from 7:30 to 9:30 am. If desired, we can also put together lunch packages with farm-fresh, seasonal products.

Active & sustainable holidays

If you love outdoor life, hiking and sporting activities, then our farm is just the right place for you: numerous hiking and cycling trails start from here, the village centre of St. Walburg is only 4 km away from us and the Schwemmalm skiing and hiking area is only 4.5 km away. In winter, you will also find a ski school for the little ones, a cross-country ski trail, a toboggan run and an ice-skating rink in the immediate vicinity. Since nature is very close to our hearts, we are very concerned about sustainability: the apartments are heated with our wood chip heating system. The wood for heating comes from our forest or from other farmers in the valley and the sun gives us additional energy, thanks to our solar system. Our drinking water comes from our own spring, which is located at 1,780 m above sea level.

Our stay at the farm was simply wonderful. A fresh breakfast basket every morning, coffee with a mountain view – it couldn't be more idyllic. The welcoming host family, the animals, great hiking trails, and real insider tips made the holiday perfect. Highly recommended, even with a dog. A friendly, loving, relaxing atmosphere – we'll definitely be back!

We spent five nights at the Kalchgruberhof in mid-February 2025 and were absolutely thrilled. Our Enzian holiday apartment was cozy, clean, and well-equipped—with everything you need for a relaxing vacation. The balcony with its view of the South Tyrolean mountains was especially lovely. The farm is a paradise for children! Our 3.5-year-old daughter was able to help with the stable work, feed the cows and pigs, and experience everyday farm life firsthand. Grandma Olga and Angelika took plenty of time, explained everything with great patience, and made the time in the stable a real highlight. All other questions were also always answered kindly and thoroughly—a wonderful atmosphere for families. A special highlight was breakfast: Angelika bakes fresh bread and crispy "souls" every day, which taste simply fantastic. We also served homemade jams, Kaminwurzer sausages, bacon, fresh yogurt, milk, and the farm's own eggs—all directly from the farm. The quality and taste of these farm-made products are unique, and it was lovely to know where everything comes from. If you'd like, you can take some treats home as souvenirs. We were particularly impressed by the warmth of the entire family. We received a warm welcome from the very first moment, and their hospitality was truly exceptional. The host family's children are equally warm and lively, and it was lovely to see how involved they are in farm life. This open and family-friendly atmosphere makes the Kalchgruberhof a very special place. The surrounding area offers many excursion options, most of which are accessible by car. Those who enjoy hiking can start directly from the farm or use the public transport network. This is included with the Ultental Card, as is so much else. The Schwemmalm gondola is not far away and takes you directly to the ski area. We felt completely at home and will definitely return. A farm with heart, tradition, and an incredibly friendly host family – highly recommended!

We spent a wonderful week on the farm! Angelika and her family are incredibly welcoming and introduce guests to farm life and the animals. You can buy homemade products like spreads, syrups, and spices fresh from the farm. Our apartment was spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped. The farm is extremely child-friendly, with a playground and small children's vehicles available for rent. We received excellent recommendations for hiking. We definitely recommend the farm and would love to come back!

We stayed in the holiday apartment at Kalchgruberhof for the first time at the beginning of May. We were speechless at the wonderful location and the stunning view of the reservoir. Angelika, Olga, and their families are incredibly hospitable, and we immediately felt at home. Our son (3) was in heaven: animals/barn work, playground/tractors, and gardening with Olga. What more could you ask for? We looked forward to the bread delivery service with Angelika's homemade baked goods every morning. Simply fantastic!! The apartment (Alpenrose) was spacious and comfortably furnished. Everything was spotlessly clean. We will definitely be back :)

We were able to spend a few wonderful days on this beautifully situated farm. The holiday apartments are large and well-designed, so we had plenty of space as a family. The highlight of each day was working in the stables with Angelika and Olga. With angelic patience, they answered all the children's questions. The two tirelessly explained to the children how they could help with mucking out the cows and feeding the pigs and cows. Every morning, you could have the many delicious farm products brought to you in a breakfast basket. The spruce sprout spread is highly recommended, and the lemon balm syrup was also really good. The best of all, however, are Angelika's freshly baked goods. The hospitality on the farm was wonderful. We always felt welcome. We also always received good, personal advice when it came to questions about excursions. We would love to come back.

Amazing location, with fantastic hospitality. We spent two weeks in the great care of Angelica and her family, to enjoy their local delicacies, helping out with the farm animals and the waking up to the impressive Ultental views with snow topped mountains. We are keen to come back!

Our 14-day vacation at the Kalchgruberhof in three words: Simply fantastic! The hospitality and warmth of Angelika and her family were exceptional, and the breakfast – including Angelika's homemade bread, homemade yogurt, and other farm products – was delicious every day! Our children (13, 10, and 7 years old) felt just as at home on the farm as we adults and our dog did. The apartment is wonderful, and a large balcony and terrace guarantee pure sunshine until late into the evening. Angelika is always on hand with excellent hiking tips – thank you especially for the recommendation of the Kühbergalm, which can be reached directly from the Kalchgruberhof. The farm's location is beautiful – peace and relaxation are guaranteed! Thank you, dear Staffler family, for this wonderful stay with you! Keep up the good work!

I don't even know where to start or stop saying positive things about the Kalchgruberhof. It was fantastically beautiful! A clear recommendation for all active vacationers (mountain bikers, hikers, paragliders, skiers) as well as families looking for peace and relaxation on the farm. The holiday apartment is equipped with everything you need, is well laid out, has a great indoor climate, and was very well-maintained and clean! The adjoining balcony offers a beautiful panorama and made for a wonderful breakfast experience in the morning. Children's equipment (high chair, bed, and bed rail if required) is available upon request. The farm itself offers great opportunities for relaxation; it is quietly located and has a beautiful, fenced-in play and sunbathing area. There are swings, a slide, a trampoline, and plenty of space on the lawn for things like riding a balance bike or a toy tractor. If you like, you can have everyday farm life demonstrated and explained in the stable. There are cats, a dog, and rabbits that love to be petted. There are also cows, calves, and pigs. For those looking for an active holiday: Several hikes or mountain bike rides can be started directly from the farm. Those who are really active can also help with the hay harvest or mucking out the stables if they wish. The farm's own products are delicious! Whether it's ham, milk, yogurt, fresh bread, or spreads (try the spruce sprout spread on Angelika's farmhouse bread!!!), everything is delicious and available at fair prices. Ultimo Card: We were very surprised by what the Ulten Valley Card, which is included in the mandatory tourist tax, includes! A round-trip ride to the Schwemmalm per day (equivalent to €20 per adult), free entry to the local heated outdoor pool, and use of public transport in South Tyrol (ideal for hikes that aren't circular) are just a few of the benefits. Finally—the best comes last, as we all know—I would like to highlight the warm, always friendly, and totally uncomplicated hospitality of the entire Staffler family.
