Music, film & theatre in South Tyrol
In South Tyrol, art, culture and beautiful things are of high importance. In every region and at any season, visitors are offered a serious of culture, music and theatre events, which often take place also outdoors.
Some of the most famous locations are, for instance, the Kurhaus and the civic theatre in Meran. Since many centuries, they offer elegant and unique performances with internationally famous artists. Both of these Art Nouveau buildings in the city centre, represent the importance of art and culture in South Tyrol.

Open-air theatre South Tyrol
Mainly in summer, when the days get longer and the sun sets the right mood, it is pays to admire the natural landscape of South Tyrol outdoors. In fact, the cities as well as in the smaller centres offer many outdoor events with good music, shows and local traditions.
In occasion of special occurrences, the traditional bands play in the streets and pavilions of various localities. One of the most beautiful open-air theatres is, without any doubt, the lake stage in in the Gardens of Castle Trauttmansdorff. Surrounded by water lilies and palms, artists from all over the world perform in front a high number of visitors every year.
As well, in the famous “Lake Stage Performances” at Lake Kaltern invite many listeners with an attractive programme.
It may easily happen, that nature becomes the stage. In fact, cultural and music events often take place on squares, meadows and pastures. For instance, the Choir Festival in Hochpustertal takes place in various locations in Pustertal, with performances by international choirs.
The mountain scape in South Tyrol has always attracted many famous artists. Gustav Mahler, an important Austrian composer, was deeply inspired by the beauty of South Tyrol and created some of his most famous works in a small house in Toblach. Here, in the nearby Grand Hotel, the “Gustav Mahler music weeks” are taking place since many years. The festival of classic music is held in Gustav Mahler concert hall, which offers excellent acoustic conditions.

In winter, when the days get colder and shorter, families and groups of friends often enjoy film evenings in of the cinemas in South Tyrol. The Cineplexx in Bozen offers seven cinema halls. Bruneck, Brixen, Sterzing and Meran also offer smaller cinemas, being nonetheless perfect for funny film evenings with the entire family.
The South Tyrolean mountains are also frequent location for films, TV series and sports events, which majorly out the scenery in the forefront.
