By car to South Tyrol

You like to be on the road by your own car and you prefer to be mobile and flexible also during your holidays? Here you will get some information about streets, highways and driving through South Tyrol.

The only highway in South Tyrol is the Brenner motorway A22, which goes through the country from north to south. On the left and on the right there are several exits leading to the different parts of the region: Neumarkt-Auer, Bozen South and Bozen North, Klausen, Brixen and Sterzing.

Do you favour country roads over highways, because you would like to enjoy unhurriedly the landscape and the panoramic views? Coming from south you can for example leave the highway in Belluno and go towards Cortina and Toblach. There the relatively famous Pustertal state road starts, leading through the valley of the same name and westwards to Brixen.

Winter tyres in South Tyrol

In winter, you should not be on the road without appropriate equipment! If the roads are snow-covered, sludgy or icy, all vehicles have to be equipped with winter tyres or snow chains. In that case, you will also see corresponding street signs. On the Brenner motorway (from Brenner to Affi) and in the municipality of Bozen, you are obliged to have winter tyres from 15 November to 15 April.

It would always be best, if you would find out the elevation of your holiday destination, the road conditions and the weather forecast before you start your journey.
