Ice Climbing World Cup in Rabenstein

Our editorial team always tries to provide detailed and accurate information, but it is possible that events undergo changes that we are unable to update in real time. Exact details on dates, times and programmes can be obtained directly from the organiser.
If you are looking for the absolute challenge and if you spare neither severe cold nor pains and highest concentration, you are dead right at this event in the last part of the valley Passeier.

Or rather: "ice right", because between 2nd and 3rd February 2019 there will meet again the best ice climbers of the world. And they all have just one ambition: to conquer the ice tower of Rabenstein and to be faster and better then all the rest of them.

After all, the frosty climbing wall in the peaceful hamlet at the foot of the mountain pass Timmelsjoch isn’t easy at all. Quite the contrary: It is considered as one of the most demanding artificial ice climbing towers in Europe. The remarkably height of 25 m, several overhangs, difficult sections and traverses will surely demand a great deal of the pro climbers.

Difficulty and speed climbing

The Ice Climbing World Cup includes two competition disciplines: On the one hand there is the difficulty climbing (lead), where the athletes have to cope with very fastidious routes – on the other hand the speed climbing (speed), where they have to vanquish the ice tower as quickly as possible.

The organizers of the ice climbing event in Rabenstein expect again numerous stars of the ice climbing scene. For Saturday there are scheduled the qualification rounds and the speed finals, for Sunday the semi-final and the finale of the lead competition.

By the way, if you would like to test ice climbing on your own, of course you can do that in Rabenstein, too: every Saturday and Sunday from 1:30 pm to 7 pm and every Tuesday and Friday evening from 7 pm to 10:30 pm – always under survey of the ice tower team and at the price of 7 €. The necessary equipment can be borrowed for a fee on the ground.
