The landscape of the Eisacktal is full of charms and exciting contrasts: Lovely foothill crests with gentle vineyard and chestnut groves alternate with lush alpine meadows and pastures, dense alpine forests, bizarre rock formations and the glaciated 3,000 m peaks of the main crest of the Zillertal and Stubai Alps. The Eisacktal offers three cities: the medieval town of Klausen in the south, the episcopal city of Brixen and the Fugger city of Sterzing in the north.

The apple harvest and the traditional Törggelen

The cultivation of apples has an important role in the lower valley areas. Therefore, it is not surprising that the apple enjoys great significance. Every year, the locality of Natz-Schabs celebrates a week dedicated to the apples with the highlight of a big feast and the selection of the Apple Queen. In the restaurants, hotels and inns, you are pampered with exquisite creations and typical specialities out of apples during this week.

Along the “Chestnut path” near Feldthurns, but also in the other localities of the Eisacktal, autumn inaugurates the fifth season – the “Törggelen”. In the traditional guest houses and taverns, you may enjoy roasted chestnuts, wine and typical farm specialities in a pleasant atmosphere. The Törggelen has a long tradition for the farmers and is getting more and more famous among vacationers.

Other indulging events in autumn are the Plum Week in Barbian or the Bread and Strudel Market in Brixen. Besides culinary events, the golden autumn offers also a large selection of hiking paths and a family-friendly cycle path.
