Tour for Kids

Where: Bozen (ITA) - Ravensburg (GER), Bozen
Region: Bozen and environs

Sporty maximum performance for a good cause – this is the principle of the Tour for Kids, for which the participants in summer 2013 will again cycle non-stop from Italy to Germany.

380 kilometers, 3,200 meters of difference in altitude, about 15 hours running time and circa 200 international cyclers pedaling hard in favor of the campaign "Radio 7 Drachenkinder" – these are the impressive benchmarks of this year’s charity cycle race from Bozen in Southern South Tyrol (ITA) to Ravensburg in Baden-Württemberg (GER).

Cycling for kids

The first peculiarity of this cycle competition is the fact that in the foreground isn’t the fastest, best and fittest biker, but the project behind the event. The Tour for Kids is part and at the same time the highlight of "Radio 7 Drachenkinder" existing since 2005.

This campaign supports children and teenager, who "aren’t on the sunny side of life". In detail this year the funds are raised for the Children’s cardiology of the university hospital Großhadern and the association "Cycling for Kids".

Secondly the Tour for Kids is an exception also in sporty respects, because the participants have to cycle for a very long time, without any longer stopover. Only two stops are available for medical and technical care.

Mainly responsible for the event, which took place for the first time in 2011, are the team around Horst Mory and the sport agency Bike & More from Bozen. Bikers can apply for the race within April and the number of participants is limited. The entry fee amounts to 199€. Till now there have registered several professional racing bikers and passionate cyclers coming from Germany, Austria, Italy and USA – and even some famous athletes such as Jan Ulrich, Jens Heppner and Hanka Kupfernagel.

Details of the Tour for Kids 2013

The preparations for the race start already on 9th August in Ravensburg with check-in, the accreditation etc. before the participants start out for Bozen at 12.00 am. There they meet the other cyclists and in the evening there are scheduled a dinner and a briefing.

After that the bikers should treat themselves to a nap, because already at 2.00 in the morning the alarm clocks will ring for the sportsmen breakfast. One hour later the participants will have to set out in Bozen. On the mountain passes of Brenner and Arlberg they will find a service area, as well as some refreshments in Imst and Bregenz. At Ravensburg they will probably arrive about 8.00 pm and they will be welcomed with the "Sun and Fun Tour 2013" by Radio 7.
