Hiking in Vinschgau Valley

Explore Graun: from Haider-alpine pasture the Mount Elfer

Graun in Vinschgau valley is a lovely village near the Reschensee-Lake.

With the steeple, which towers toward sky in the middle of the lake, Graun is one of the most popular photo subjects of South Tyrol. Also from aloft the village and the lake build marvelous scenery. For instance from Mount Elfer.

The excursion

Start your tour in St. Valentin auf der Haide, a small village close to Graun. Take the cable car to get to the Haide-alpine pasture and from there path 14 in direction of Schöneben. After a while you come to a fork: choose path 9 and hike to the Haider gap at 2746 m above sea level. Pass the ridge and climb the peak of Mount Elfer (2929 m above sea level). The view over the Vinschgau Valley, Graun, the Reschen Lake and the glaciers at north is amazing.

To return back to Graun you have to take the same path as to get there. For the entire tour you need 4 hours.
