Mountain biking in Vinschgau Valley

From Glurns to the Uina Gorge

Mountain biking in Glurns means suspense, fun and challenge and sometimes a tour doesn't end at the borders of South Tyrol.

Like this itinerary. It begins in Glurns, it brings you to Schlinig, it cross the border to Switzerland and it leads you to the spectacular Uina Gorge.

The mountain bike tour

The rewarding tour begins in Glurns. Take the Via Claudia Augusta road and cycle through Laatsch, Schleis and Burgeis. Arrived there take the left hand province road to Schlinig. There you have to cycle on the alpine-pasture-path until you arrive at a waterfall. Here you have to shoulder your bike for hundred meters before you come to a small plateau. Saddle your mountain bike again and cycle to the Sesvenna Refuge at 2256 m above sea level.

On a easy track you go to the border between South Tyrol and Switzerland (don't forget your passport) where the Uina-Gorge begins. Here you can show how able you are with your mountain bike: the trail is steep, sometimes wet and very rocky. Be careful and if you should be unsteady, get off the bike and push it through the gorge.
After you have crossed the Uina Gorge, the path begins to be easier and brings you to Sur En in Engadin. There you have to take the Engading-cycling-track to Scoul. Here you bike to S-charl (1800 m above sea level) and on a forest track to Astra alpine pasture and Costaines Pass (2235 m above sea level). During the descent you pass the villages Valchava, Santa Maria and Müstair and you arrive finally at the border. From there on you cycle through Taufers im Münstertal and along the cycling-track back to Glurns.
The whole tour is 83 km long. You will need 7 hours for the itinerary and you have to be very fit and skilful on your mountain bike.
