Hiking in Southern South Tyrol

From Salurn to the high-moors of Hornalm-alpine pasture

Salurn is the most southerly village of South Tyrol and together with Haderburg Castle it forms the language-border between German and Italian language.

Above Salurn there are many beautiful alpine pastures and landscapes: rewarding destinations for your excursion in Southern South Tyrol.

The excursion

The excursion begins in Gfrill, situated above Salurn at 1300 m above sea level. Take path E5 there and then path 2/4 in southwestern direction. Walking along path 2 you reach the high-moors called Scharzsee Lake and Weißsee Lake.

Both lakes are imbedded in a very mysterious landscape and they seem to hide many secrets. After you have seen enough continue your excursion on path 3/4 to reach the Hornalm-alpine pasture. By the way you pass marvelous forests and lovely meadows. Arrived at the Hornalm-alpine pasture take a break and enjoy the great view over Salurn and Southern South Tyrol.

To turn back choose the same paths as to get there. The entire excursion lasts 3,5 hours.
