Mountain biking in Southern South Tyrol

Neumarkt: biking on a closed train line

It is the closed and ancient Fleimstal train line, which leads mountain bikers from Neumarkt to Montan, Kaltenbrunn, Kalditsch and Truden and which shows the wild-romantic side of Southern South Tyrol.

The mountain bike tour

The 35 km long tour begins in the center of Neumarkt. Take the Fleimstal Valley-road towards Montan and along the Castelfeder-road you will cross beautiful orchards until you arrive in Pinzon. Continuing the tour you come to Montan. Before you get in the village, take the “Promenaden Wanderweg”-path, where the closed train line begins. Follow the line for 14 km and enjoy the wonderful landscapes. Arrived at Kaltenbrunn, cross the “Glener” viaduct and the road, which connects Montan and Truden.

Proceed your tour in a 140 m long tunnel and cycle to Enn Castle and on the Dolomites-road to the train station of Kalditsch, where the train line begins again. Arrived at the Pichlerhof Inn take the right hand road and cross many orchards until you arrive at a chapel. Turn right and bike to the train station of Kaltenbrunn. From here you reach Neumarkt passing Montan on path 3.

For the medium-difficult tour you will need 3 hours and a half.
