Hiking in Meran and surroundings

From Meran to Mount Ifinger

Mount Ifinger is one of the most popular and demanding mountains in Meran and surroundings. Worth mentioning is most of all the great view in the far Dolomites. It is really breathtaking!

To climb Mount Ifinger you have to know how to use the fixed-rope-route-set particularly if you hike with children and you have to be absolutely free from giddiness.

The excursion

The difficult excursion begins in Meran-Obermais and it is 7 hours long. Take the cableway there to the Ifinger summit-station and hike from there in direction of Naifjoch and Saint Oswald Church. Go ahead to mountain-station Kuhleiten and take the line to Mount Kleiner Ifinger (2552 m). Here begins the fixed-rope-route which helps you to climb the peak of Mount Ifinger. Enjoy the amazing panorama-view from there!

The way back is the same as the way there. A good alternative is to take path 18 at Naifjoch to reach Refuge Ifinger. From there you hike on path 10 to Gsteier and on path 3 back to the starting point.
