Hiking in Meran and surroundings

From Algund to the Sprons lakes

Not only the Dolomites-area is a demanding hiking territory: above Algund close to Meran there are the marvelous Sprons lakes, which are situated in one of the most beautiful landscapes in whole South Tyrol.

The Sprons lakes consist of 10 amazing lakes. One is small, the other is larger and another in turn glows green. Amazing, the Sprons lakes are a real nature wonder. Don’t forget your camera!

The excursion

Starting point is Vellau near Algund. Take the chairlift to Leiter Refuge and hike an hour-long from the Hochgang Refuge. There you turn into path 7 and pass meadows, forests and a rocky section until you reach the Hochgang gap, where you see already the Lang Lake and the Green Lake, two lakes of the Sprons group.

Follow the path in north-western direction. After some time you arrive at the Oberkaser hut and at the Lakes Karer and Pfitscher. There you take path 25 and you come back to the starting point at Leiter Refuge.

For the excursion you have to project 6 hours. Good condition is needed.
