Hiking in Eisacktal Valley

To the Fane-alpine pasture: excursion in Vals

The Fane-alpine pasture is more than a simple alpine pasture but a lovely mountain village whit a few wooden huts and even a little church.

Around the cozy village there is no else then green meadows and deep forest. The idyll is perfect.

The excursion

The Fane-alpine pasture is situated above Vals. Take the cable car there and at the summit station the path number 9 in northwards direction until you reach the Vals Pass (1920 m above sea level). Continue the excursion on path 9 and reach the Rotenstein-alpine pasture (2107 m above sea level).

Arrived there you will see that the path becomes more steep and exposed: some parts are even secured. After a little while you reach the meadows of Ochsenalm-alpine pasture and then at last the Fane-alpine pasture. We recommend visiting one of the many farm bars there, where you can taste great South Tyrolean food. A real pleasure!

The excursion isn’t difficult for expert hikers. Conditions are no fear of heights and agility. The excursion lasts 2 hours. Who wants an easier and shorter ascent (1 hour), should take the asphalted street, which is starting from Vals. The street is closed for traffic from 10 am till 17 pm.
