Exploring the Gilfenklamm Gorge

The Gilfenklamm Gorge is surely one of the most important natural monuments in South Tyrol. The gorge is cut in white marble which reflects the surroundings in greenish color. Amazing!

The excursion

Starting point of the excursion is Stange, a little village near Sterzing. Follow the signposts and park your car at the designed parking space. Here begins the path which brings you into the Gilfenklamm Gorge.

Before you get in it you have to pay a little concession tax. Go on to the end of the valley and enter the gorge, which was made accessible in the years from 1893 till 1895.

Crossing the gorge you will surely get wet, the water dabbles really high! Exit the gorge on Jaufensteig path and continue your excursion on path 11b on which you reach Reiffenweg ruin and the starting point Stange.

For the easy excursion you need waterproofed and anti-slip shoes. You will need 2 and a half hour for the whole excursion.
