Mountain biking in Eisacktal Valley

Uphill and downhill in Meransen

Meransen and the holiday area Gitschberg Jochtal is recommendable in winter as in summer.

While in winter time skiers are carving on the sunny slopes, in summer excursionists and bikers enjoy the area by food or on bike.
Instead of using the cable car “real” mountain bikers climb the steep paths on Mount Gitschberg: the steep the uphill part the demanding the downhill part!

The mountain bike tour

The mountain bike tour begins in the center of Meransen at 1414 m above sea level. Pedal to the valley station of Gitschberg cable car and near Pichlerof farm turn to the left and take path 12, which is leading you to Zasslerhütte hut and finally also to Mount Gitschberg (2095 m above sea level).

Now begins the thrilling part of the tour: the downhill back to Meransen on path 12: fast, bending, bumpy. If you want to extend the downhill-track go on on path 12 to Mühlbach.

But attention: this part is really demanding and also recommendable for expert downhillers!
The mountain bike tour Meransen-Gitschberg-Meransen lasts 1,5 hour and it’s 7 km long. The tour is difficult because of the downhill track. “Real” downhillers can of course take the cable car to reach Mt. Gitschberg!
