Hiking in Eisacktal Valley

From Meransen to the beautiful Seefeldseen Lakes

The holiday area Gitschberg-Jochtal is one of the most rewarding hiking-territories of Eisacktal Valley. See it yourself on the excursion from Meransen to the great Seefelfseen Lakes at the end of the idyllic Altfasstal Valley.

The excursion

Starting point of the excursion is Meransen. Take the cable car and get without effort to the summit station of Mount Gitschberg (2198 m above sea level). From here you walk for about 45 minutes through gorgeous alpine pastures until you arrive at Zassler Refuge and then at the Ochsenboden grounds. Here begins the panoramic path 6, which leads you along the Mt. Fallmetzter (2568 m above sea level) to the Seefeldseen Refuge.

But take care: some parts of the path are very exposed and difficult to handle! Arrived at the Seefeldseen Lakes you will be amazed because of the idyllic landscapes.

Walk around the lakes on path 14/15 and descend on a steeply part to the Refuges Wieserhütte and Pranter-Stadel-Hütte at 1850 m above sea level situated in the romantic Altfasstal Valley. To return to Meransen take the forest track.

The whole excursion lasts 4,5 hours and we recommend it only to experienced excursionists.
